Security Policy & Framework Development

Policy sets copied from a template read well and fail in practice, because they describe an organisation that is not yours. We select a control framework proportionate to your obligations and size, then write a policy set, technical standards and procedures that reflect how your organisation actually works. Standards are made specific enough to be testable, so a control can be checked rather than merely asserted. Each document has an owner, a review date and a route for making staff aware of changes, so the set is followed rather than filed.

In short

Security policy and framework development produces documentation short enough to read and specific enough to follow. It gives each policy a real obligation behind it and an owner in front of it, so the set stays current instead of ageing in a shared drive.

What we do

The work inside security policy & framework development.

Framework selection

We help you choose a control framework proportionate to your obligations and size, and advise against adopting several at once. The framework that fits is usually the one your customers or regulators are asking about, not the most comprehensive available. Choosing deliberately at the outset avoids the common waste of rework when an ill-fitting framework is abandoned.

Policy set drafting

We write a policy set that covers your real obligations without duplication or filler. Shorter policies that people read protect the organisation better than exhaustive ones that go unopened. Each policy traces back to an obligation, so there is nothing in the set that cannot be justified when an auditor asks why it exists.

Standards and procedures

We produce technical standards and procedures specific enough to be tested against. A standard that says "use strong encryption" cannot be checked; one that names the algorithm and key length can. This specificity is what lets control testing later produce evidence rather than opinion.

Review and awareness cycle

We set ownership, review dates and the route by which staff learn of changes. Documentation that is not maintained drifts out of line with practice and becomes a liability at audit. A defined cycle keeps the set current, and a simple awareness mechanism means people actually know what the rules are.

What you receive

Deliverables, in writing.

When this work helps

You may be facing this.

  • Policies were copied from a template and do not match reality
  • A customer or auditor has asked for documentation you do not have
  • Staff cannot say what the security rules are

How an engagement runs

Discover, assess, design, deliver.

  1. 01

    Discover

Establish the obligations, decision rights, and risks that genuinely matter to this organisation. We separate the requirements that truly apply from those assumed to, so effort is not spent governing risks you do not carry.

  2. 02

    Assess

Review existing controls, policy, evidence, and how the work is actually performed. We compare the control on paper with the control in practice, because the gap between the two is usually where the real risk sits.

  3. 03

    Design

Design a proportionate control set with named ownership, evidence, and review cadence. Every control has an owner who can operate it and a defined source of evidence, so nothing depends on memory or heroics.

  4. 04

    Deliver

Embed the changes with the teams doing the work, and test that the controls operate. We hand over controls the process owners can run themselves, rather than a framework only we understand.
