Risk Management

We identify financial exposures — customer credit, liquidity, currency, rate and operational loss — and put proportionate limits, controls and monitoring around them. The limits and policies are written to be specific enough for the people making day-to-day decisions to apply, rather than left as statements of intent. Controls and monitoring are designed to catch breaches early, and exposures are reported to management with their movement over time. It matters because the loss events that most damage mid-sized businesses, a concentrated receivable failing or an unhedged exposure crystallising, are usually the ones nobody had quantified in advance.

In short

Financial risk management identifies and controls exposures to credit, liquidity, market and operational loss. It complements enterprise risk work rather than replacing it, with the emphasis on quantified limits.

What we do

The work inside risk management.

Exposure identification

We quantify the credit, liquidity, market and operational financial exposures the business is actually carrying. An exposure described in words but never sized cannot be managed or prioritised. Putting numbers to each one is what turns a vague risk register into something decisions can be made against.

Limits and policy

We set limits and policies specific enough to be applied by the people who make the decisions day to day. A policy that lives only in a board paper changes nothing on the ground. Written as concrete limits a credit controller or treasurer can act on, it becomes the control it was meant to be.

Controls and monitoring

We implement controls and monitoring designed to catch breaches early, while they can still be corrected cheaply. A limit with no monitoring behind it is discovered only after it has been exceeded. Early detection is the difference between an adjustment and a loss.

Reporting

We report exposures and breaches to management with their movement over time, not just a snapshot. A trend tells the board whether a risk is building or receding, which a single point never can. Reporting it consistently keeps financial risk on the agenda before an event forces it there.

How an engagement runs

Discover, assess, design, deliver.

  1. 01

    Discover

Understand the decision, the financial context, and how finance currently operates. We establish exactly what question the engagement must answer, so a business-case review and a process redesign are not confused with one another.

  2. 02

    Assess

Review the case, processes, controls, and reporting against what the organisation needs to rely on. We report where the numbers and processes are dependable and where they rest on assumptions that will not hold under pressure.

  3. 03

    Design

Set out the financial approach, process design, control set, and reporting model. Definitions, ownership, and controls are documented so the improvement does not depend on us remaining involved.

  4. 04

    Deliver

Support implementation, then track cost and benefit against what was approved. We measure realised value against the criteria agreed at the outset, so the decision is held to account rather than forgotten.
