Management Reporting & MIS

We rebuild management reporting around the decisions it is meant to support: fewer measures, each defined once with an owner and a source, delivered on time, with commentary that explains why a number moved. The starting point is to establish which decisions the reporting serves and to drop whatever serves none. We shorten the close timetable so the information is current enough to act on, and hold commentary to explaining causes rather than restating the figures. It matters because reporting that is late, inconsistent or bloated trains leadership to skim it, and the measures that would have changed a decision get lost among the ones that would not.

In short

Management reporting delivers timely, consistent information that supports decisions rather than describing history. A pack that arrives late, or that two functions can read differently, informs nothing.

What we do

The work inside management reporting & mis.

Requirement definition

We establish which decisions the reporting is there to support, and remove whatever supports none. Reporting accretes over years until much of it is produced out of habit rather than need. Cutting back to what informs a decision shortens the pack and sharpens attention on what matters.

Single source of data

We define each measure once, with a named owner and a single source system. Two reports stating different figures for the same measure destroys trust in all of them. One agreed definition per measure is what lets people argue about the business rather than about the numbers.

Pack and dashboard design

We design the pack and dashboards to lead with what changed and why, not with a wall of undifferentiated tables. A reader should see the exceptions and the movements first, and find the detail only if they want it. Good design is what turns a report from a reference document into a decision aid.

Timetable and commentary

We shorten the reporting timetable so the information is current enough to act on, and hold commentary to explaining causes. Information that arrives three weeks after period end describes a situation that has already moved on. Timely reporting with honest commentary is worth more than exhaustive reporting that comes too late.

How an engagement runs

Discover, assess, design, deliver.

  1. 01

    Discover

Understand the decision, the financial context, and how finance currently operates. We establish exactly what question the engagement must answer, so a business-case review and a process redesign are not confused with one another.

  2. 02

    Assess

Review the case, processes, controls, and reporting against what the organisation needs to rely on. We report where the numbers and processes are dependable and where they rest on assumptions that will not hold under pressure.

  3. 03

    Design

Set out the financial approach, process design, control set, and reporting model. Definitions, ownership, and controls are documented so the improvement does not depend on us remaining involved.

  4. 04

    Deliver

Support implementation, then track cost and benefit against what was approved. We measure realised value against the criteria agreed at the outset, so the decision is held to account rather than forgotten.
