We use BTP to extend SAP cleanly, through side-by-side extensions, integration and data services that keep the core untouched and upgradeable. Alongside the build we put governance in place from the start, covering subaccounts, entitlements and consumption, because BTP sprawl and unexplained cost are easy to create and hard to unwind later. We also configure identity and authorisation consistently with the core so the extension landscape does not become a separate security problem. We design side-by-side extensions that keep the SAP core clean and the extension's lifecycle independent of it. This lets you change and release extensions without touching core configuration, which protects upgradeability and keeps each part of the estate understandable on its own.
We use BTP integration and data services with defined contracts and monitoring rather than ad hoc connections. Treating these services with the same rigour as any other interface keeps the platform observable and prevents a quiet accumulation of undocumented data flows.
We configure identity, roles and authorisation on BTP consistently with the backing SAP system, so access is coherent across the whole landscape. Aligning this early avoids the common situation where extensions become a separate, weakly governed authorisation surface.
We govern subaccounts, entitlements and consumption so the landscape stays structured and the cost stays explainable. Setting entitlement limits and monitoring consumption from the outset is what keeps BTP from drifting into unexplained, rising spend.
